We Need to Talk About Your Strategy

Back in 2013 I (Matt) was a web design and digital marketing noob.  I got myself a beautiful website for a small business I had just started, expecting it would draw in tons of potential customers.  I literally had no strategy besides just getting the site designed and letting it sit.

Can you guess what happened?

  1.  No one could even find my website,
  2. The few people who stumbled upon my website didn’t understand the value of what I had to offer or how it differed from anyone else’s, and
  3. No one bought from me.

It was through this process that I realized I needed much more than just website design.  I needed a full marketing strategy.

I’m guessing that you too have an urgent message to share, a business solution that people really need, but that urgency is being lost on your audience.  Or worse, it can’t be “lost” because it can’t even be “found” in the first place.

Let’s resolve right now to make sure the same problems that happened to me don’t happen to you.

Traffic

Users need to get to your website from somewhere, whether that be from search engines, social media, email, or some sort of mobile app. A nice website with no traffic is akin to putting a hotel on a beautiful but deserted island, with no thought given to how someone might get there.

Typically, our intuition is deeply flawed about how website visitors get to our site.

For example, with the increase in mobile device usage, local search engine optimization has become the most important factor for small businesses. This is why it’s often more important for local businesses to build out their Google My Business profile than their social media presence.

Content

Content refers to the messaging and information found on your site.  Although content is most frequently thought of as text, your message could also take the form of images, audio, or video.

A pretty website with poor content is like slapping lipstick on a pig.  Do you have a unique value proposition, include the benefits of your offering in your copy, cover your primary features, answer objections, and include a call-to-action?  If you haven’t done that, or your last web designer left you without one of these elements, you have something less than a website.

Conversion

Doing business online is analogous to dating.  What do you think your success rate would be if your dating method was to walk up to a stranger and ask “will you marry me?”  Probably not very high!

Your web presence is a similar situation.  Your visitors need to get to know you first.  If you’ve properly educated them with your content, the conversion process is easy.  After educating your users, it’s important to guide them to take the next step. Don’t leave them hanging, wondering if they’re supposed to call you, email you, and then burying your contact information.  Make your call-to-action clear and obvious.

How you can avoid others’ mistakes and get a killer website:

The vast majority of websites out there lack the one thing needed to grow leads and sales.

The same thing my beautiful website lacked.

A strategy.

A good content strategy is like the blueprint of a house.  It guides and directs how everything should be put together.

Once your content strategy is in place, you’ll be shocked at how much progress you can make, having a roadmap in hand.

Here Are 3 Things Your Strategy Absolutely Needs!

Hi, I’m Matt. I’m a professional athlete turned professional copywriter and digital marketer. While I love being outdoors, I also love ideas and how ideas influence our lives.  That’s why I love helping businesses communicate their message to their audience in a clear, compelling, and visually impressive way. I have two primary goals: (1) make sure your site not only looks good, but also gets the exposure, traffic, and engagement that you want, and (2) help grow the Eastern Oregon Economy by implementing sound digital marketing principles.

Hi, I’m Will. I’m an Eastern Oregon University graduate with degrees in Film Production, Creative Writing, and Literature, and I love to create. Some of my favorite things to create are poems, stories, photos, videos, and even fictional worlds. My passion is helping people to realize their projects in the fields of video, photo, and writing. There’s little I enjoy more than sitting down with people to help them to (1) conceptualize their project, image or strategy and (2) actualize it with the highest degrees of quality, professionalism and fun that are possible in any given situation.

I’m also a California transplant (please don’t hold it against me) who relocated to La Grande to be with my husband, Matt.  My goals are to (1) create beautiful visual assets that showcase your unique brand and (2) communicate the value of your product or service in a way that informs and attracts customers. Whether it’s copy for your website, blog, email campaign or social media presence, I love and excel at writing.

Hi, I’m Shelton. I’m a graduate engineer who decided to follow his passion for graphic design. From an early age, I had always loved creative arts. During my practice as a software engineer, I realized an awkward relationship between technical and creative design. By and by, what started as a passion turned into a career. I endeavor to (1) help you communicate your ideas through simple, elegant visual graphics and (2) create engaging digital creatives that can help you drive sales and generate leads.

“When I was evaluating different web design companies I could tell that what Matt was offering was a much more complete package in terms of writing the content, doing SEO, and building the site.  Sure, I could have had someone take my images and my copy and slap them together, but I knew the additional level of service that Matt offered would have a dramatic impact on the performance of my site.

And you know what?  I was right!  With my new website and digital marketing campaign, I was able to book $25,000 in new dog training clients within 3 months of the website being launched.”
